I spend 1 1/2 days away from the compuer and it seems like I’ve been away a month. Cliff and I went to church Sunday. We had lunch at church: northern beans, turnip greens, slaw and cornbread (only a southerner could appreciate this lunch). It was so good. Cliff went home and I stayed at my mom’s and spent the night. It was so nice to be spoiled. Then Monday morning I took her to her doctor and she got a good report! Then she and I got a bite out to eat and I took her home and I came home.
For the most part, we have had a (sort of) crummy fall…if it’s not raining, it’s cold. But a week or so ago on a beautiful autumn day, Cliff and I went to Meeman Shelby State Park (or as locals call it–Shelby Forest). It is just north of the city. I have to go there every fall because it is so beautiful and I love to see the leaves. This picture is from Poplar Tree Lake there and it is so picturesque. They have cabins on this lake and I want to rent one so badly. (You can even stand on the bank of the Mississippi River in the park.) Maybe one day…

That does look like a beautiful park! I would love to see it someday.
Fabulous for Cliff’s Mom!
So wonderful that you have a great relationship. And Poplar Tree Lake is beautiful!
Mmmm I want some of that lunch!!!!
The Man (Steve) has a lot of health issues
We spent 5 hours at the ER last night.
Guess I’m not a Southerner then. (lol)
Your day sounds nice.
Glad your Mum got a good report.
I’ts only 32 degrees here at 3:00 P.M. Very cold.
Probably because it’s so cold up here, but I feel like I would skip the coleslaw and dive straight into the beans, greens, and cornbread! What a fabulous lunch!
The photo of the park makes it very inviting. Is that a bit of the Mississippi?
What a nice picture! I wish we would get some fall, any fall! Its been hot here, and feels like summer. I am happy to hear your mom is improving! You always make me hungry when i read your blog! What are Northern beans, are they with ham or bacon or something?
Looks like a lovely peaceful place
That looks like a great park. And as for lunch, I, um, I like corn bread, anyway.
Very pretty!!!!
Lunch sounds great, though I’ll skip the slaw as well.
I’ve been wondering if it would be a good idea to go to Shelby Forest… your picture gave me my answer!
