Cliff and I went to my maternal grandmother’s (deceased) family reunion Saturday about 80 miles away. I have to say that I go partly for my Mother’s sake but we had a wonderful time and the food was excellent.
The reasons I am thankful I went to the family reunion:
- It was so good to see everyone and it was a fun outing for a Memorial Day weekend.
- I saw some second cousins I haven’t seen in ten years and I was dying to see them. We played together when we were young and my grandmother kept some of them when they were little.
- Cliff and I sat with a couple we rarely visit with and got to know them a little better.
- Cliff and I also talked with my second cousin all about law enforcement in a little town and that was really interesting. He is a detective.
- There were more from my generation there this time and that was nice.
- My grandmother only has one brother and three sisters still living and it was so good to see them.

Sometimes I go to family reunions for my Mom also, but then end up having a great time. Really, this is family and to keep the family going you should carry on the relationships.

Family reunions are great for connecting with those we see so seldom. Someone has to organize them, though. I think once one loses their parents it is good to schedule a get-together at least twice a year otherwise we drift apart.
